Job Description

Aries Clean Energy is developing a pipeline of waste recycling bio-energy projects at sites across the US. Aries is responsible for the sales and supply of its own mechanical designed equipment to all Aries projects. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for Aries proprietary equipment mechanical design and oversight. The position includes developing and / or managing the mechanical design scope and of the front-end engineering packages and EPC detailed engineering phase work for the Engineering department from the home office base under the direction of the Director of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities and Important Duties

  • Primary responsibility will be leading the Mechanical Engineering Function and Staff, preparing, leading, supporting and/or managing home office mechanical engineering and drafting activities, including leading or facilitating systematic development processes and sub-contractor technical disciplines oversight.
  • Responsible for mechanical integrity of Aries proprietary equipment scope of supply Perform mechanical engineering and design tasks as needed to ensure design goals are met
  • Prepare equipment mechanical designs and data sheets, arrangement lay-outs and design information for pre-FEED (FEL 2) packages, i.e. scope definition, design basis, preliminary fabrication plans, assembly procedures, narratives, P&ID’s
  • Prepare FEL 3 packages, i.e. develop/review final fabrication plans; develop scope of work for subcontractors, identify subcontractors and review equipment technical quotes.
  • Developing work breakdown activities and schedules and planning engineering discipline work activities
  • Manage the daily workflow planned for mechanical activities
  • Build relationships with Aries team members, contractors, vendors and suppliers
  • Run software systems to aid in the development and design of systems, processes and equipment;
  • Integrate environment, health and safety into mechanical design, maintenance and work practices;
  • Create and review mechanical equipment drawings, equipment specification sheets and vendor enquiry documents;
  • Review and approve engineering contractor and vendor mechanical equipment proposals, quotations, standards and design procedures;
  • Create and review materials specification data sheets;
  • Create and review user requirements for equipment and processes
  • Write specifications for equipment and systems and work with vendors to purchase process equipment
  • Estimate costs and personnel and material needs, preparing proposals and establishing completion dates;
  • Participate in vendor qualification and selection and lead fabrication shop inspections
  • Prepare & compile design package documentation
  • Create Aries pro-forma design package documentation
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project cost estimating data

Job Requirements


  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Overall working experience 10 – 15 years, international working experience an advantage
  • Ten 10 or more years’ experience in mechanical design and/or plant maintenance environment
  • Project Management qualification an advantage


Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of engineering management systems (Stage gate processes)
  • Experience in recording/writing detailed technical data and reports.
  • Skilled in application of mechanical engineering software, i.e. ChemCAD, CADWorks, etc
  • Vault software experience, preferably vault administration experience will be an advantage
  • Smart P&ID skills and experience (and ability to use this in the vault server).
  • Recording/writing detailed technical data and reports.
  • Experience and exposure to equipment development projects will be an advantage
  • Facilitation skills (Hazops, design reviews, etc)
  • Industrial experience, gasification & materials handling industry preferred.
  • Startup and commissioning experience
  • Excellent innovative problem-solving skills
  • Strong negotiation skills Prior experience with vessel design, material selection (low / high temperature), heat exchanger design, rotating equipment design and familiarity with DCS.
  • Good report writing skills
  • Experience and exposure to equipment development projects will be an advantage
